Lunch will be served.\nJames J. Wilkerson has spent his career speaking out on behalf of others. In this debut collection\, Wilerson discusses his own experiences with masculinity and the ways it impacts our culture. As a lawyer\, an advocate\, and a fraternity alum\, Wilkerson has a uniquely inside look into the ways society has created and defined what it means to be “a man.” Through these essays\, he takes a look at how we got here and lays out just how much we would all benefit from a cultural course correction.\nJames Wilkerson holds his Masters degree in communication from Bellarmine University and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Louisville. He is the founder of Greek Law: a sexual assault prevention and consent program for fraternity and sorority chapters. SUMMARY:Friends of JCPLL 2023 Social!
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for our annual social event.  We’ll meet this year at the downtown Bristol (614 W. Main Street\, #4211) from 5pm-8pm on June 22nd.  Mingle with friends and learn more about what the Friends of the Jefferson County Public Law Library are all about.  This group helps to support the library through community outreach.  They are responsible for Law Day in the Park! and the Fresh Start Expungement Program.  We have a great group of people who are trying to get the word out about the law library and all it has to offer.  Everyone is welcome.   There will be hors d’oeuvres provided and a cash bar available.  Please call the library with any questions about the friends group or this event.  502-574-5943

DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, June 27th at 12 noon for an informative recap of the 2023 KY General Assembly session.  Attorney Bob Heleringer will be discussing the many bills enacted by the legislature\, focusing on those that he feels will most affect the practice of law in the state. \nLaws to be analyzed in this course include: \nHB 551 – Sports Betting bill \nHB 3 – Juvenile Justice Reform Act \nSB 126 – Change of Venue bill \nSB 150 – Anti-transgender bill (Dept of Education Guidance/Interpretation included/discussed) \nHB 594 – Redefining and banning of “Skill game machines” \nSB 47 – Medical marijuana bill (legalization) \nPlease call to register (502) 574-5943\, $40 for one (1) CLE credit hour\, approved by the KBA\, lunch included \nBob Heleringer received his A.B. from Xavier University in 1973 and his JD from UofL in 1976.  He is a practicing attorney with a general practice and also served as a Kentucky State Representative from 1980 to 2002.  Mr. Heleringer is the author of a legal textbook\, “Equine Regulatory Law” (2012).
